Miranda Janse
Miranda Janse
Home Music Teachers Rotterdam
My name is Miranda, and as a professional harpist, music is my greatest passion. As a child, I saw a harp and immediately knew: this is my instrument. That enchantment never disappeared, but only grew stronger. At age nine I (‘finally’) started taking harp lessons at the music school in Goes with Ineke de Vente, followed by my studies with Saskia Kingma in Rotterdam, where I received my Bachelor’s degree from Codarts. My journey also took me to Vienna, where I was taught by Anneleen Lenaerts, first harpist of the Wiener Philharmoniker, and later took a master’s degree at the Maastricht Conservatory. During my studies, I took master classes with renowned harpists such as Sylvain Blassel, Maria Graf, Mariko Anraku, Charlotte Balzereit and Godelieve Schrama. I also studied jazz harp with Rosetty de Ruiter and took minors in conducting and music education.
As a musician, I have gained extensive experience as a soloist, in chamber music and in orchestras. As a soloist I played harp concertos by Handel, Debussy and Boïeldieu with orchestras such as the Zeeuws Orkest, Codarts Symphony Orchestra and the Slovak Sinfonietta. In chamber music, I am active in ensembles such as Duo Janse/Robak (harp and violin) and MirAnna (harp and viola). Since 2019 I have been a regular guest harpist with the Slovak Sinfonietta and since 2024 with the Operaen i Kristiansund. I have also played with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and several other orchestras, under conductors such as Valery Gergiev, Susanna Mälkki, Arie van Beek, David Gimenez Carreras and Rastislav Štúr. I have performed at special venues such as the Concertgebouw, De Doelen, the ICCR International Conducting Competition Rotterdam and Hotel Union Øye in Norway. One of the highlights was my contribution to the TV recording of the celebration of 30 years of Slovakia, broadcast by Slovenská televízia, in the presence of several presidents. Whether I play in a large concert hall or an intimate setting, the connection that music creates with the audience never fails to move me.
To me, music is magical – it touches hearts and enriches lives. As director of Home Music Teachers, I want to share this magic by offering quality music education that inspires and connects. My own harp teachers were my great heroes, not only because they shaped me musically, but also because they personally had a huge impact on my life. I want to nurture that special bond between student and teacher at Home Music Teachers, by providing a platform where such valuable connections can emerge. Making music has many benefits, such as stimulating creativity, strengthening memory and concentration, and promoting emotional well-being by reducing stress and bringing joy. Therefore, making music is important not only for music itself, but also for many other aspects of life. My dream is to bring more music to the city, not only through our lessons, but also by organizing events where students can play together, meet and perform at special venues such as Sophia Children’s Hospital and homes. Home Music Teachers is a company that is all about passion and quality, and I look forward to working with our students and teachers to spread the power of music with an open and connecting approach.
